The winter of 1997 started somewhat inauspiciously with traces of snow.
Though February and March proved to be the reverse. Both warm and dry.
Low rainfall and high temperatures led toearly flowering. The return of rain in April and
May replenished vital water reserves and slowed down the hither to rather precocious growth.
Fine, hot weather continued throughout the maturation period with enough rain to enhance
the balance ofwhat was a very high quality, intensely concentrated harvest.

The Niepoort 1997 displays the immense concentration,
colour and aromas to ultimately be judged as one of the
 finest Vintage Ports ever to be produced. It is with the utmost
confidence that I commend this remarkable wine to you.
 

The Quinta do Passadouro has sheer richness of intense fruit, supported by a rigidly
firm tannic structure which will mature for decades. It simply offers immense pleasure.
