Shirley East studied
painting
at Kingston School of Art, from which she graduated with the National
Diploma
in Design.
She then trained in Manchester as a Medical Artist and
worked
for some years producing
medical
for illustrations,
mainly advertising pharmaceutical products.
She taught for four years
as visiting art teacher to two different
schools. She has painted many
portraits; including members
of her own and others' families. She has been a
member of the
East Kent Art Society since
1968 and has exhibited at their annual exhibitions.
In 1979 at the invitation of a Dutch Artist, she had her own one woman
exhibition in Rotterdam. She is an Associate
Member of the British Mycological
Society and over the years
has identified and made
detailed
watercolour paintings
of some 341 species. She hopes to have these
published as a book but has yet managed to meet an enthusiastic and
wealthy
publisher.
She now does oil paintings for
her own pleasure, tending to concentrate on scenes with
water and the reflections
therein.
Sadly, Shirley East
suddenly
and unexpectedly passed away in April 2003, leaving a husband,
two sons and many paintings.
Dr. Michael East has assured me that if anybody should
be interested in viewing any
of her paintings, he would be delighted to show them.
