WEDDINGS
We have been supplying wines for
weddings for over 20 years
and have always been highly
complemented on our selection of
wine and champagne. This is, after all,
arguably the most important
day in peoples' lives i.e their Wedding
Day.
With regard to celebratory fizz, we can
offer a selection of champagnes
from Georges Gardet, which are imported
directly by ourselves and
for those who prefer a less expensive
option, we can supply a top quality
Cava from Spain or a magnificent
sparkling wine from Australia.

Many people have made the mistake
of thinking that the best value option is
to go personally to Calais, with a view to purchasing all their
requirements
of wine and champagne. Although there are always one or two deals to be
had, both in Calais and in supermarkets in this country, there are the
obvious
risks involved such as, firstly, it is a well publicised fact that
batches, barrels
and bottles get sent by the vineyards to the Ports. Secondly, very
often
the
costs involved in making such trips are false economy, so why not
leave it to
the experts who have years of experience. For example, which are
the best
red and white wines and which are the growers to go for and the
ones to avoid?
It is not sufficient to buy on region alone. One of the most crucial
and important
aspects in wine buying is to get the right wine grower. Supermarkets do
not get
any better prices at most vineyards than we do. They tend to go for
vineyards with
large production where they can push them down on price. This
inevitably leads to
some vineyards cutting corners with their production. Also, beware of
"3 for the
price of 2" or "half-price" offers. You usually end up paying
what you should have
paid in the first place!
For my daughter's wedding, I must have had around 40 people coming up
to me
and complementing me on either the Fleurie, the Sancerre or the
Champagne
or
even all three. I believe that one of the secrets of a successful
wedding is
the selection of "safe wines", which will have general appeal and at
the same
time inspire people to say "this is nice isn't it?", rather than at
badly organised
weddings, where one often hears "where did they get this rubbish from?"
We have always had very happy customers, well-satisfied with our
suggestions
and recommendations, which are always tailor-made to suit the
individual
wedding.

We can supply red and white wines, which would be suitable for weddings
from
£4.68 (including vat) and upwards and top quality sparkling wines
from
£8.17
(including vat) and upwards.
One further important point to remember is that most guests will not be
fooled
by Bucks Fizz, where a cheap sparkling wine is used and orange juice
has been
added in an unsucessful attempt to disguise the quality. I learnt
a long time ago that
the quality of a good sparkling wine or
champagne will show through the added juice.
WEDDING LISTS
We believe that a case of either 6 or 12 bottles of a decent red or
white,
depending on one's budget, would be very well received by the newly
married
couple, who would probably prefer this to yet another set of punch
bowls.
Gifts can go from as little as a bottle of white Port for £12.00
(including vat) up
to a case of 2005 vintage claret or a case of 1997 or 2000 vintage
Port, all of
which can be laid down for a few years and obviously be at varying
prices. Another
suggestion is to give special bottles of specific vintages or
perhaps magnum bottles
which could be labelled especially for the occasion. We can arrange
this.
